The Role of Stress in Digestive Health

Did you know that your gut is often called the "second brain?

The connection between stress and gut health is well-documented, yet many of us overlook it. High stress levels not only affect our mental well-being but can also lead to digestive disturbances like constipation and IBS.

Mechanism: Stress triggers the release of hormones such as cortisol, which affects gut motility. When stressed, the body’s autonomic nervous system moves into a "fight or flight" mode, diverting blood away from the digestive tract and causing the muscles of the intestines to relax. This slows peristalsis, leading to constipation. Stress also alters the composition of the gut microbiota, further disturbing normal digestion

Solution: Incorporating stress-relieving practices such as yoga, meditation, and even deep breathing can improve gut health. Another excellent remedy is drinking Chamomile tea, as Chamomile has been found to reduce stress while relaxing the smooth muscles of the intestines.

In Planta Lax, Chamomile is specifically included to create a calming effect, providing both digestive comfort and mental relaxation.
